Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Corran to Lochailort (17)
1546 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 99. Fri 2nd Aug 2013 - Arisaig to Roshven, 18 miles (1546 miles walked)

Looking back to Arisaig
We needed to get some day snack food and a couple of tins of meat for evening meals from Arisaig so there was no point in starting too early.

In the end we never got away until 09.00.

It was a fine start to the day with sunny intervals and quite windy, just right for walking.

From the campsite we took the footpath around the coast to Arisaig, well we did for most of the way, we lost it in the middle somewhere and ended up following a cow trail. It was okay though as we found the cows and got to Arisaig.

After spending an hour doing the shopping and having a pot of tea in the cafe we continued on the road round the bay to Morroch Point then a track to join the main road near Borrodale.

It was 12.00 so we had a break and put sun lotion on before we left, it seems a while since I've had to do that.

Dave looking up Loch Nan Uamh
The main road wasn't too bad, traffic was light and there was a cycle way/lane for most of the time we were on it.

There was a short section along Loch Nan Uamh, the scenery around all these lochs is stunning, but for the most part it was inland until we reached the head of Loch Ailort.

We had been on the main road for 2 hours non-stop and we were both feeling the extra weight in the rucsac. It is always a shock to the system carrying the rucsac when you have just filled up for 3 or 4 days after running on empty.

We took a much needed break in the Lochailort Inn for some light refreshment before walking round to the other side of the loch on the A861.

Looking across Loch Ailort
It was a southwest wind but it seemed to come from all directions along the loch.

We kept seeing smoke blowing across the loch and wondered where it was coming from until we realised it was the wind gusting strongly and picking up the water. The wind had strengthened a lot, we would need a sheltered spot for the tent.

We aimed to stop around 17.00 so just before then we started looking for a pitch, finally finding one at 17.20.

There was a small layby about a mile past Roshven that had a patch of grass between it and the loch.

We were just discussing who would pitch where when a heavy shower started, the first one today, which lasted about 15 minutes. The tents were up before the next shower came.

It was 19.30 before I had finished eating my dinner and when I switched on the phone to start writing up the log found I had a text from Jane & Lawrence, the couple who put us up in Golspie.

Jane was telling us that her sister would also put us up if she was home when we passed her house. She lived in Roshven!!! No comments please!!!

18 miles with good loch views.
