Log No 9. Sun 7th Apr 2013 - Sunderland to Jarrow, Newcastle,13 miles (160 miles walked)

Paddle Boarders
It was a late start today, we had to get to Sunderland to where we finished yesterday and the first bus was not until 9.30. We got there at 10.50.

We crossed the Wear Bridge then went along the road and cycleway to the coast at Roker, the signs said we were on Bede's Way.

At Whitburn Bay we watched 4 paddle boarders in the surf before continuing on to the car park at Whitburn where we were to meet up with Andy & Rosie.

Mick & Dave on the coast at Whitburn
We stopped at the cafe here for a hot drink. The gas for Mick's stove had run out last night and mine ran out this morning while boiling the water for Mick's instant breakfast so I had never got a drink of tea before we left.

Andy was to walk with us and we got back onto the coast path proper soon after leaving the car park.

The coast from Marsden Bay
The path stayed on the cliff top past Marsden Bay and along The Leas (where the Great North Run finishes) to the start of the beach.

We started walking on the beach but the tide was nearly at it's highest and the sand was too soft for easy walking so we got back onto the road.

The beach at South Shields
We followed the minor roads along the Tyne to Jarrow and stopped at Bede's World (museum) at 16.15 to wait for Rosie to pick us up.

We were staying at Andy & Rosie's so it was real food, roast pork with lots of vegetables, delicious.

It was only 13 miles today.

Mick's left knee had been giving him gyp all day so I hope it is okay for his last day with me tomorrow.
