Log No 141. Thu 26th Sep 2013 - Arrochar to Garelochhead, 10 miles (2181 miles walked)
It was going to be another short day, 10 miles to Garelochhead, purely to make the next 2 days walks sensible.I had spent the night in the big picnic site at Rest And Be Thankful, mine was the only vehicle in it but I got an early wake call at 06.00 when the owner of a mobile hot food wagon arrived to set up shop, it had a noisy generator.
It seemed to be doing a roaring trade too with workers and tourists pulling in for a bite and a drink.
The Arrochar Alps |
There was no easy bus route back to Arrochar so I took the train and started walking at 10.30, it was another cloudy day.
Arrochar |
When I got on the track, which was more of a footpath, I saw a signpost saying it was the Three Lochs Way.
The path appeared to be well used and with it being above the tree line gave me some good views. The cloud lifting briefly to show something of the Arrochar Alps.
Ardgartan & the road to Rest And Be Thankful |
Strange as it may seem, I found a cycle helmet on the route, mud splattered but in good condition. How can a cyclist lose their helmet?
The Three Lochs Way and Loch Long |
It turned out the track was a naval or military road, I don't know if they still use it but it was accessible and in far better condition than the main road.
Almost another 3 miles on the A814 to the roundabout at Whistlefield then 15 minutes down the B833 into Garelochhead.
Tomorrow I start and finish at Garelochhead going round the Rosneath Peninsula.
