Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Redcar to Amble (2)
177 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 11. Tue 9th Apr 2013 - Rest Day (177 miles walked)

Dave training in Orkney, March 2013
My first rest day, slightly delayed as Mick was able to walk with me for 10 days.

With his company my trek has got off to a good start, the weather certainly helped, although it has been, and still is, bitterly cold it has been dry.

The walking conditions have also been easy with a good coastal path and very little climbing involved.

I have had no major physical problems, I did have pain with my achilles on Friday walking from Redcar to Hartlepool but it has been okay since.
Maybe more amazing is that I don't have one blister, in stark contrast to my LEJOG walk, let's hope I am not speaking too soon.

Mick's knee was giving him a lot of pain, I hope he is able get it sorted out before he is next able to join me.

The biggest problem so far has been trying to find a convenient campsite, popular seaside resorts had expensive holiday parks while there were large areas with nothing.

Tomorrow I have the offer of some accommodation from one of Andy's friends for which I am thankful as I could find no campsite nearby.

While we were passing through Seaham we met Scott who is due start his Round Britain Coastal Walk on 6th May 2013.
He is being supported by his employer, Asda, and will be walking with his dog, Sam, and is aiming to walk 11,127 miles in 6 months !! See Scott and Sam go for a walk.
He is walking clockwise so I could possibly meet him again, unless I blink !!

The replacement tent pole section arrived at Andy's yesterday so that is the tent restored again.

I haven't had a shave since I left Orkney, it has certainly kept my chin warm, should I keep the beard or shave it off ?
