Log No 186. Fri 22nd Nov 2013 - Knott End-on-Sea to Cleveleys, 19 miles (2862 miles walked)

Dave at Knott End
What a glorious day, I don't know where the newspaper got the forecast for the arctic weather. Hardly a cloud in the sky and the north wind, which admittedly was cold, was only a breeze.

Stewart drove me back round to the ferry slipway in Knott End, the ferry can't operate when it is low water, not that it makes any difference to me as I have said I won't use them and I set off on the 14 mile detour along the Wyre Way at 09.40.

Up a creek without a paddle
The Way went through the golf course, on to Hackensall Hall then along the embankment of the River Wyre to The Heads.
From there it was a very minor road to Hambleton.

The creek at Hambleton, like many of the creeks in these muddy estuaries, was full of boats.

Shard Bridge
After Hambleton the path followed the River on the saltmarsh.

The Way continues up alongside the river but I crossed over on Shard Bridge after taking a short break.

This side of the river was just like the other side with a lot more boats in the creeks at Skippool.

Fleetwood to Knott End Ferry
With this side of the river being more accessible there were numerous wooden seats along the path.

I stopped at one of them in the shelter of some trees to finish my lunch, I was facing the sun and it was very warm.

It was one of those days where you just wanted to go slow and enjoy the conditions, I took an extended break of 15 minutes.

With there being a large picnic area in the Country Park at Stanah the footpath was tarmac and it was like this right past the okd chemical works.

There was no access by the river veyond this point so the footpath went inland across a disused railway line to the into Fleetwood.

I went past the "Fishermans Friend" factory and got to the Fleetwood ferry terminal at 14.20.

The plan was for Stewart to pick me up from here but the timing didn't work with his commitment to take a friend for his hospital appointment.

Blackpool Tower & Pier from Cleveleys

With it being such a lovely day I decided to continue walking on for a while befire getting a bus back to Stewarts.

Looking north to the Lake District Hills
Walking along the prom I had excellent views north and south with the weather conditions.

Sunset on Cleveleys
The promenade at Cleveleys was very attractive and I got there just as the sun was about to set.

I got a bus back to near Stewart's house and he got back just before me. He was having to go back to the hospital again shortly and didn't know how long he would be there for.

After a drink of tea and thanking him for his hospitality I drove round to a car park in Cleveleys for my nights stop.

A thoroughly enjoyable 19 miles in just over 6 hours.
