3419 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 223. Thu 23rd Jan 2014 - Dale to Neyland, 18 miles (3419 miles walked)

The Low Tide Footpath
Well it wasn't cold in the tent and there was no condensation but it was a long dark night. Mind you, the porridge tastes good in the tent.

There had been showers through the night but the tent was all but dry when I took it down this morning.

It was very overcast when I set off at 08.00.

Looking back to Dale
The footpath at the end of the bay past Dale has 2 low bridges to get across the river but these are only accessible for 7 hours around the low tide.

Fortunately the bridges were exposed when I got there otherwise it was either a 3 mile detour or a possibly long wait.

The coastline from Dale
I suppose I wasn't really on the coastline now as I was going round Milford Haven, both sides of which seemed to be full of storage tanks of one form or another.

There was another inlet at Sandy Haven I had to get round, a notice at the small slipway advised of a proposal to construct low water stepping stones and bridge across the inlet, this hasn't been done yet so it was a 6 mile detour.

Looking back to Milford Haven
I didn't follow the whole detour, opting to save some time by staying on the road to Milford Haven.

It was just after midday and I decided to treat myself to an all day breakfast in a cafe.

Neyland and Pembroke Dock

After that it was back on the footpath between the oil refinery and the Haven to get to Neyland and the bridge across to Pembroke Dock.

It was 15.05 and a bus stop in Neyland said there was a bus due in 10 minutes so I waited for it to take me back to Haverfordwest and the camper.

The rain stayed away and it had been an easier 18 miles but I'll be glad to go back to the lighter rucsac.
