Log No 319. Mon 19th May 2014 - Faversham to Upchurch, 19 miles (4910 miles walked)
The Swale by Faversham |
I walked back through the town and the village of Oare and took the minor road to the banks of The Swale, the stretch of water between the mainland and the Isle of Sheppey.
It was only 09.00 but there were a good few cars in the park at the end of the road, presumably all bird watchers as the area is a nature reserve.
Conyer |
I didn't feel in too much of a rush today as the route was a little bit shorter at only 19 miles and I enjoyed the quiet walk in the sunshine.
Low water by Conyer Creek |
I continued back on the embankment until the next obstacle, Milton Creek. I didn't have to come far inland as a new road bridge had been built over the creek on the outskirts of Sittingbourne.
The bridge to Isle of Sheppey |
Once I had gone over the A249, the road onto the Isle of Sheppey, it wasn't too bad and when I got into the village of Iwade I stopped in a pub to have a drink of tea in some shade.
Leaving the village I took a footpath across a field to get onto the minor road for a final 5 miles to the campsite in Upchurch.
Not that I saw much of them but I was walking alongside bits of creeks off the River Medway.
I arrived at the campsite at 15.00.
I'm still trying to plan out the next few days as I have arranged to meet up with my brother Mick on Friday evening at Stanford-le-Hope for another weeks walking. I'd like to take a rest day but I think I've too much to do yet and campsites are not easy to find now I'm approaching London.
