Log No 347. Mon 16th Jun 2014 - Kessingland to Great Yarmouth, 15 miles (5326 miles walked)

The beach from Kessingland
With a bit further to walk today I made an earlier start at 07.50, there was no change in the weather but it was still warm enough for just a t-shirt.

There was supposed to be a clifftop path but as a sign said it was lost to erosion I went down onto the beach, high tide was at 12.30 so I had plenty of hard packed sand at the sea edge to walk on.

Coming into Lowestoft
When I reached Lowestoft I came up onto the promenade and then into the town to see if I could find a camping shop.

As luck would have it I came across one just as they were opening the doors at 09.00, I was needed a new gas canister and rubber feet for the walking poles.

The coastline from Lowestoft
I got back to the seafront at North Beach and followed it to the end.

There was no footpath shown on the map and it didn't look like I could get right along the beach to Corton so I took to the road.

The cliff top path from Corton
The first access back to the clifftop said the path was lost to erosion, a bit further up the road I tried again, a dog walker said I should be able to get to Hopton-on-Sea along the top so I gave it a go.

I hadn't gone very far when I decided to cut back to the road through a Holiday Park rather than find the path lost and have to back track.

The seafront at Gorleston-on-Sea
At Hopton it seemed to be all holiday parks so I didn't try to get to the cliffs but took a track through the golf course to get to Gorleston-on-Sea.

Walking along the promenade I stopped to speak to four folk, I usually have to explain where Withernsea is but as soon as I said it one of them said she lived there for three years in 1969. She never told me her name!

Where Gorleston-on-Sea ends and Great Yarmouth begins I don't know but when I got to the wide Breydon Water I turned inland to head for the campsite at Burgh Castle.

Mick had not had a reply from this small site and when I got there found the field was out of commission for the week. Fortunately there was another site just across the road.

Looking up Breydon Water

That's me out of Suffolk and into Norfolk having done 15 miles today in a leisurely 6 hours.
