5575 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 366. Sat 5th Jul 2014 - Immingham to Barton-upon-Humber, 15 miles (5575 miles walked)

Mick at Killingholme
It had started raining last night and it was still raining when Mick & I started walking at 09.00, this would be an early test for my new shoes.

We got back to the river at South Killingholme and walked along the sea wall.

Dave on footpath at Skitter Ness
The rain hadn't been heavy and it dried up within an hour.

The sea wall stopped at East Halton Beck but the footpath continued along the top of the embankment.

We stopped after a couple of hours and had one of our sandwiches sat on some rocks at Skitter Ness.

Mick had just been saying that the Humber wasn't renowned for its marine life when he saw a black fin in the water. It was probably a dolphin or a porpoise and it looked like there were at least 2 of them although we only saw one at a time.

Looking across to Hull

New Holland Dock
The sun was starting to break through as we came by New Holland.

Mick and the Humber Bridge
It was a good footpath but we hadn't seen anyone else on it.

Dave on footpath to Barton-upon-Humber
We finally saw 2 cyclists come onto the path ahead of us as we approached Barrow Haven and a while after that actually met a cyclist.

Stephen & Mick
As we were getting near to Barton-upon-Humber we saw Stephen, Mick & Karen's eldest son running towards us, he had just driven over from Lincoln to meet us.

The Humber Bridge from Barton-upon-Humber
After dropping us off this morning Karen had spent the day with her parents, who live in Barton, and she was picking us up from the south end of the Humber Bridge.

We got to the bridge at 13.50, it had been another easy day of 15 miles, especially as I didn't carry a rucsac at all, Mick carried everything in a small rucsac.

Karen was waiting for us with her mum and her aunt, Gill had come over from Cottingham with Tracey & Phil. Gill treated us all to tea & cakes.

It hadn't been much of a test for the new shoes but the wet grass had soaked through Mick's boots, my feet were dry.
