Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Poole to Southampton (51)
4567 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 299. Tue 29th Apr 2014 - South Haven Pt to Bournemouth, 23 miles (4567 miles walked)

It was another overcast and misty morning as I hit the roads at 07.45, if the weather follows the same pattern the sun will come out in the afternoon.

Corfe Castle
My leg was still as painful but it settled down a good bit once I had gotten going and I kept an easy steady pace.

The first hour was a minor then a B road to Corfe Castle where I joined the busy A351 to Poole.

The River Frome at Wareham
I turned off it onto the B3075 to go through Stoborough Green, where I took a short break, and on to Wareham where I rejoined the A351.

Thankfully the main road here had a pavement all the way to the roundabout on the A35.

The weather had been improving all the time but still threw down the occasional heavy shower and it was on-off with the waterproofs each time.

Poole Harbour & Brownsea Is
I crossed over the roundabout to take the B3067 through Lytchett Minster and into Upton where it merged with the B3068 to go into Poole.

With the website not having been updated last night I stopped in a cafe for a mug of tea and to upload the log & photos.

The beach to Bournemouth
It was only 14.30 but if there had been a campsite nearby I would have gone to it, as it was the nearest site was still about 17 miles away. My leg wasn't bothering me too much so I decided to press on to Bournemouth.

The sun was definitely out for good now as I followed the cycleway round Parkstone Bay back onto the roads to get to the sea front at Branksome Chine.

Bournemouth Pier
It was getting on for 5 o'clock by the time I got to the railway station in Bournemouth, the longest days walk I have done for a while.

I should have stopped in Poole as my leg was really feeling these last few miles but it will make the walk tomorrow all the shorter.

The plan had been to get a train & a bus to the campsite but last minute texts to Jan, a friend of the family, saw me get the train to Basingstoke instead for some home comforts.

I surprised myself when I worked out I had done 23 miles today.
