Log No 303. Sat 3rd May 2014 - Southampton to Stubbington, 20 miles (4640 miles walked)

River Itchen from The Itchen Bridge
Just for a change the sun was shining when I started this morning at 08.00 walking through Southampton, going into the centre and across the parks to The Itchen Bridge.

Once over the River Itchen I was away from all the docks and was able to get back to the side of Southampton Water.

Looking back to Southampton from Netley
The Solent Way uses a small passenger ferry to get across the River Hamble so when I got to Netley I took to the roads to get to the first bridge at Bursledon.

The Hamble to Warsash Ferry
There was a footpath right along the side of the River Hamble into Warsash where I had arranged to meet Carl at 13.00.

Carl was another colleague from my time in Glasgow and was now, very handily from my point of view, living in Stubbington.

The coastline from Warsash
I strolled into the car park right on time and just before Carl & Heather turned up. Heather took my rucsac back in the car while Carl and I walked along the shore.

Fox
We came inland to get round a holiday park and Carl spotted a fox in the field next to us. The fox just stood and watched us for a while before calmly trotting back into the hedge.

The coastline here was also receding with erosion and we walked on the shingle beach for the last mile to the bird reserve at Titchfield Haven.

Dave & Carl at Stubbington
There were no notices that I saw but Carl said it was an area for nudists and we did pass one sun tent with a couple lying half out.

We got to the pub on the front just before 3 o'clock and called in for a pint before walking on to his house where I was having another night in comfort.

20 miles of sunshine today.
