Training Walk - Sun 20th Jan 2013

Looking over Kirkwall to Wideford Hill
It was a cloudy but dry day with a cold south-easterly, the weather over the past few days had left the ground crisp underfoot and I wouldn't be sinking into any boggy bits on the hill.

Setting off at 9:30 and taking my dog Holly with me I went through the town to Picky, onto Muddisdale Rd and the path through the park and along the edge of the golf course to get onto Sunnybank Rd.

The track up to Wideford Hill
I turned left along the road and took the track on the right, at the bend, to go up the hill.

I met three runners coming down the track and then stopped to chat to a farmer for a few minutes, he was telling me he had plans through for another 8 turbines in the field on the right but he couldn't go ahead yet because of the grid connection.

Coming down Wideford Hill
At the top of the track I took the path straight up the hill to the trig point, took a few more photos then started down the hill north-east following the path, at one time this was also a mountain bike course but the jumps were long past their use by date.
The path brings you out at the old reservoir.

Wideford reservoir was, at one time, the town water supply but hasn't been needed for years now and the water has been drained out.

I turned south-east at the road to get onto the path along the side of the golf course and down onto the main road back into town.
Walking along the front then up Mount Dr & Weyland Terr to the cycle-way past the college and onto East Rd, up Annfield Cres onto Berstane Rd and back home.

An 8 mile walk taking me 2.5 hours, carrying a 10Kg pack.
