Training Walk - Sun 3rd Feb 2013

looking down to Inganess
With a poor forecast for today I decided not to go up any hills and stick to a low level walk.

I set off just before 9.00 in full waterproofs, going along Berstane Loan then past Quoydandy and down to Inganess Bay. It was a strong westerly with heavy showers and for the moment the weather was behind me.

Inganess Bay
Crossing over the burn I continued along by the shore to the next bay. The coastline here still looks a sorry sight from the ravages of the storms last month with stones from the beach having been thrown across the path.
The tide was out a few meters and it exposed a string of 9 creels which had been shifted towards the shore.

There was a very heavy shower, rain and hailstones which were stinging my legs through both my trousers and waterproofs.
I waited a few moments at the end of the airfield to give the shower time to ease off a bit before I turned around to head back into it, retracing my steps back to the car park at Inganess.

Flooded path
From the car park I took the footpath along the burn to Deerness Rd. The water in the burn and loch was high enough to flood the path in places, there must have been some amount of rain through the night but I never heard it.

Wideford Burn
I crossed over the road and continued on the footpath as it followed Wideford Burn then turned north up to Caldwell Cottage. I detoured on the path to Holm Rd and back before continuing past Catty Maggies Quarry onto Deerness Rd then back home along Quoydandy Loan and Berstane Loan.

A 2.5 hour walk of 8 miles carrying a 12 Kg pack.
