Log No 109. Mon 12th Aug 2013 - Corran to Camusnagaul, 10 miles (1701 miles walked)

Looking back to Corran, Ardgour
It was another wet night and both tents are letting water in at the seams. This is normally not much of a problem since the inner tent should still shed the water but the tents are never getting chance to dry out and the inner is now letting the water through.

The rain had stopped but the tents were still packed up wet again.

There was no campsite to finish at today so we going to finish at Camusnagaul and get the ferry across to Ft William to stay at the campsite just outside the town.
In the morning we can catch the ferry back leaving the tents & equipment to give us a pack free day to walk round Loch Eil.

The last ferry from Camusnagaul was at 16.35 and as Mick reckoned on it only taking us 6 hours to get there we didn't want to have a long wait and so would have to go slow, the ferry before that one was 12.30.

We never had much of a lie in and left at 08.30, there was very little wind and the view up Loch Linnhe was quite atmospheric.

Looking to Ft William
We hadn't been going long when I spotted a dolphin in the loch, the first live one I have seen since I started this walk.

There must have been half a dozen of them swimming lazily, occasionally breaking the surface, there were no acrobatics.

During our second break Mick checked his map and realised we didn't have as far to go as he had thought. He had printed out this map section at a slightly larger scale and not noticed when he had worked out the distance to do today.

It turned out that if we upped our pace we could catch the 12.30 sailing to give us more time in Ft William, we needed to visit a camping shop to get some bits and pieces.

We arrived at the jetty in Camusnagaul just before 12.00, there were 12 of us waiting for the passenger ferry, the maximum it could take. The crossing took 10 minutes and cost £1.50.

When we checked in at the campsite we discovered that the warden lived in Hornsea, just 15 miles up the coast from where we started in Withernsea. He and his wife have been the wardens here between April and October for the last 5 years.

I had bought some seam sealant for the tent but until the showers stop for long enough to let the tent dry out I won't be able to use it.

Only 10 miles today.
