Log No 21. Fri 19th Apr 2013 - S Queensferry to Kinghorn, 17 miles (366 miles walked)

Forth Rail Bridge from N Queensferry
In complete contrast to 2 days ago it was glorious sunshine with very little wind as I left Sally & Duncan's house at 8.20.

I had a campsite organised, hooray, which I will be using as a fixed base so today was to be a gentle 17 miles, before getting the bus to the canpsite.

It took 50 mins to get across the bridge then it was down into N Queensferry.

The Fife Coast
I had to do a bit of backtracking at the start as the path was blocked at the car park and it took a few minutes to work out how to get on to the path.

Once I dropped down towards the shore it's like I was in a different world, no traffic and no noise save the gentle lapping of the water on the pebbles.

Bright blue sky, negligible wind and calm sea, what could be better.

Looking back over Aberdour
Once I had got past Inverkeithing the path was along the front of Dalgety Bay and it was like everyone was asleep save for the dog walkers, there was still no noise.

There was a minor detour to get round the gas terminal and even this was a pleasant walk. It was quite busy now with other walkers.

Just before I came into Aberdour I stopped on a bench at 12.15 for my second break and finished off my lunch.

While I was contemplating life an older walker joined me on the bench and we got chatting.
At one point he said there a good place to get lunch in Aberdour, I told him I had just finished eating my sandwiches.
Whether he thought I was just saying that, I don't know, but he asked if I wanted a couple of pounds (I had never mentioned I was walking for charity). Have I been losing that much weight that I look destitute? I'll maybe need to start eating more!!

Looking to Burntisland from Silversands Bay
After my extended break I continued round to Silversands Bay and on into Burntisland where I thought I had better buy some more bananas & chocolate, I also got some more blister plasters as the one on my big toe is getting bigger.

I stopped on the promenade for a calory intake and changed blister plasters.

It was now a short hike along the road to Kinghorn where I got a bus at 3 o'clock.
Although it was pretty much just the main coast road I needed 2 more connections before I got to the campsite at Bankhead Farm, between Anstruther and Crail, at 17.30.

All in all it has been a good day.
