Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Dunbar to Crail (4)
392 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 22. Sat 20th Apr 2013 - Kinghorn to Pittenweem, 26 miles (392 miles walked)

Kinghorn
It was an early start having to ensure I caught the 7.15 bus, the first of 3, back to Kinghorn.

The connections worked fine and I was walking by 9.15, it was not quite so sunny today but not bad at all.

A pleasant coast path out of Kinghorn brought me to Kirkcaldy, the 'Lang Town' according to the signpost. I went past the roundabouts/fair ground on the sea front then round into Ravenscraig Park, this was unusual in that it had a high boundary stone wall which went right to the sea following the shape of the small inlets.

Going through a small rock tunnel I came into the small harbour at Dysart, the path came inland a little bit to avoid the slopes and got back to the coast at Blair Point.

West Wemyss
East Wemyss
West and East Wemyss are separated by Wemyss Castle and Coaltown of Wemyss.

The inhabitants of both seemingly live in caves with the more affluent westerners having doors and windows in their caves.

Largo Bay
I got into Leven and went to Sainsbury's for some lunch and to stock up, it was 13.10 and my first break of the day, it is so much easier with a very light pack.
It was an extended break as it took over 20 mins before my meal arrived, give me Asda anytime.

After following the golf course out of Leven for a bit I dropped onto the beach then back up to get through Lundin Links and Lower Largo. From here it was a straight level grassy path until I once more dropped back onto the sands.

This part of Largo Bay had a few kite surfers on the sea but by the time I got near enough to try to get an action photo they had all stopped.

The rocks at Kincraig Point meant the path climbed up the hill before descending back down to the golf course at Earlsferry.

It was 17.05 and I thought I would see about getting a bus back to the campsite. I got to the first bus stop and realised the last bus had been at 15.00, so much for forward planning! It was about 9 miles further to the campsite and if I stopped for a meal in Anstruther I should still manage to finish in daylight, no problem as I was feeling fine.

St Monans
500m further at the next bus stop I saw there were more buses due yet, it must just be that last stop was bypassed. The next bus was in half an hour but as I had just psyched myself up for walking I decided to carry on and see how I felt.

It took me nearly 2 hours to get by St Monans and into Pittenweem, my right ankle was starting to ache a bit so I decided that if I was in time to catch the 19.00 from here then I would get the bus otherwise with an hour before the next bus I might aswell walk the last 4 miles.

I made the bus with 5 minutes to spare.

It was an enjoyable but long day covering 26 miles.
