Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Grimsby to Withernsea - The End (63)
5625 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 372. Fri 11th Jul 2014 - Kilnsea to Out Newton, 5 miles (5625 miles walked)

It was still a grey day but thankfully the rain had stopped and it was only going to be a 5 mile walk to Joyce & Andy's at Cliff Farm, Out Newton.

Sandra on the beach at Kilnsea
Driving the camper back to Kilnsea we had just gone through Easington when I asked Sandra if she could smell something burning. She said there was definitely a burning smell inside the camper.

I stopped the camper and when I got out saw smoke at the front, looking under the bonnet I couldn't see anything wrong and there was no more smoke now. It didn't take me long to realise it was the front driver's wheel that was the problem, the brakes must have been sticking on and overheating. I didn't have far to go so I waited for it to cool down and continued on to the car park at Kilnsea.

The wheel was still hot when we left it and started walking along the beach to Out Newton.

The Gas Terminal at Easington
It was 13.30 and high tide was at 4 o'clock so I expected we could walk right along the beach to Joyce & Andy's.

Dave on the footpath from Easington
It took us an hour to get opposite the end of the Gas Terminal at which point I decided to come up onto the clifftop rather than chance getting caught out by the tide.

The map showed a footpath along the edge of the cliff, it wasn't a designated public footpath but we could see it was walked on.

Sandra approaching Cliff Farm
The path had started as a grassy track at the edge of the field but the next crop had been sown almost to the edge of the cliff so had to walk through it.

Others had walked through it before us so it wasn't too bad and we got to Cliff Farm at 15.00, leaving plenty of time to relax before the big finish tomorrow.
