Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Toscaig to Corran (16)
1407 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 89. Mon 22nd Jul 2013 - East of Airigh-drishaig to Lochcarron, 18 miles (1407 miles walked)

Crossing Allt a'Chumhaing
The good weather continued and with a bit of a breeze the few midges that were around were no problem.

I followed the hydro poles until I crossed the Allt a' Chumhaig then made for the shore to pick up the track into the quarry.

The quarry wasn't in use at the moment so there was no one around to deny me access.

The road from the quarry went through a fish farm then a fabrication yard before joining the public road.

A sign here said "No unauthorised access", if I had been coming this way I would likely have been put off and tried to find a way around.

Head of Loch Kishorn
This road is the shortcut to Applecross and winds it's way up the Coire na Ba and over the bealach.

I crossed the bridge over the River Kishorn at the head of the loch then turned onto the main road to come down the other side of the loch.

The road up Coire na Ba to Applecross
I left the main road to go through the small villages of Ardarroch and Achintraid before taking the hill path over to Loch Carron.

Looking back across Loch Kishorn
This was one of the shorter footpaths I have been on, and one of the easiest.

The path joined forestry tracks and I was able to walk in the shade and get out of the heat, I even got a good wash in one of the streams.

I came out of the forest at Reraig Bay and then got onto the road at Ardaneaskan.

Looking to Lochcarron
It was 5 miles along this road to get to Lochcarron and the campsite.

I was looking forward to shopping in the Spar shop but I walked past it, deciding to pitch the tent first.

Not seeing a sign for the campsite I asked about it and was told it had closed, typical, the day has been dashed.

Camping in the forest
I stopped at an hotel for an ice cold pint of orange juice to take stock.

I didn't need to buy much so I got a couple of things from the garage shop and set off to find a wild campsite.

With the sun still beating down I wanted somewhere in the shade and I found an ideal spot in a small forest.

It's not totally secluded but I shouldn't be disturbed.

There is no wind but amazingly there are no midges.

18 hot miles and no phone signal.
