Log No 114. Wed 28th Aug 2013 - Barcaldine to Gallanachmore, Oban, 18 miles (1779 miles walked)
A dry night for a change but it was a damp start to another day of road walking with the odd bit of cycleway. At least I can predict how long it is going to take me to cover the 18 miles to the campsite at Gallanachmore, just south of Oban.
Barcaldine Castle |
I was intending taking a break at Barcaldine Castle, sure that I could find somewhere to sit among the ruins but when I got there found it was inhabited and used as a B&B and there was nowhere to sit.
The weather had dried up now but there was no sign of the sun coming out.
The coastline from Connel Bridge |
It was only a short stretch on the road as I was able to pick up a cycleway/footpath from Ledaig to North Connel before rejoining it at Connel Bridge to cross over Loch Etive.
Ganavan Bay |
There was a cycleway from Dunbeg through some small hills to Ganavan, a sign at the start warned of steep gradients, there were 2 or 3 but they were only short.
Looking back to Oban |
As I was walking along the sea front in Oban this chap said "Hello again", I couldn't remember but he said we had spoken back in Tarbet.
Kerrera Ferry |
The campsite was just a couple of miles south of Oban along the coast road, passing the passenger ferry to Kerrera and the few houses at Gallanachbeg.
Gallanachbeg |
My Achilles were not too bad at all today but tomorrow sees me doing some path-less cross country walking so we'll see how well they stabd up to that.
