Log No 272. Wed 2nd Apr 2014 - Maenporth to Come-to-Good, 14 miles (4135 miles walked)

It was another grey, damp day but not much wind, fortunately it was hardly raining when I took the tent down and I managed a slightly earlier start of 08.15.

I'm meeting up with Mick again on Saturday so all my daily routes have been planned until then, today was another short one of 14 miles.

It was nearly all road walking again today to get round more rivers and inlets.

There was just a mile of coastal footpath to get to Swanpool Beach and Gyllyngvase Beach then along the road round to Pendennis Point.

I had a final short section of footpath then I was into the dockland area of Falmouth.

With no rush today I stopped in Falmouth for a pot of tea and to upload yesterdays log to the website, the phone signal was no use last night and I don't think tonights is much better.

I left Falmouth at 10.45 and it was all road walking now, I went alongside the inlet to Penryn then across to Mylor Bridge at the head of Mylor Creek.

It was 12 o'clock and I decided to treat myself to a pub lunch, I had rolls made up for lunch but as I hadn't yet got anything for cooking tonight thought I would have them for tea instead.

The next obstacle was Carnon River so I continued on minor roads to get onto the A39 at Perranarworthal and crossed the river at Devoran. It seems a long time since I was on such a busy road and with no footpath and very little verge I was glad it was only for a couple of miles.

At Carnon Downs I got back onto the minor road for the final mile to the campsite at Come-to-Good Farm, arriving at 15.00.

This was just a very small site, 5 pitches with limited facilities and the farmer encourages participation in farm activities.

There was one other camper, Julian was here with his daughter Lucy to help feed the lambs.
Julian invited me to join them for a barbecue and I didn't need asking twice when all I had planned was a couple of rolls. He also gave me a £20 donation, thanks Julian.

I won't get back to the coast tomorrow as I've three more rivers to get round. The South West Coast Path misses all this out with a short ferry crossing.
