Log No 277. Mon 7th Apr 2014 - Fowey to Lansallos, 15 miles (4215 miles walked)

River Fowey at Lostwithiel
Well I don't think it stopped raining all night and it certainly tested the seams of the tent that I re-sealed when I was home. It was probably 90% effective with just the odd drip coming through the air mesh panel at the end of the tent.

We took the tents down in the rain and left at 08.15.

It was all road walking and we got to Lostwithiel, with the rain behind us, and crossed the bridge over the River Fowey at 10.00.

Lunch at Lerryn
The rain was in our faces now we were coming round the other side of the river.

After an hour of the minor roads going up and down we arrived at the very small village of Lerryn, with the almost constant rain we had never stopped for a break since we started and on finding a pub, The Ship Inn, open here we went in for a hot drink.

Todays plan was to get to Polruan, get something to go with our noodles for tea then walk another 4 miles along the Coast Path to a campsite, there was a campsite at Polruan but it wouldn't open until Easter.

With the weather conditions, and there was very little view with the mist, we decided we would cut off going to Polruan and go straight to the campsite.

We could have bought some food in Lostwithiel but as we expected to shop near the end of the walk didn't want to carry extra weight for more miles than we needed too.

It looked like we would be on short rations tonight but the owner of the Ship Inn said he had some pork and chicken left over from yesterday's carvery so we happily asked for some pork. He gave us a big chunk of pork and said it and the drinks were his donation to us.

Leaving the pub the rain eased enough for us to grab a quick sandwich before getting back on the road at 12.00.

The final 6 miles had some steeper roads but it was easier going than on muddy footpaths and we got to the campsite at 14.10.

The rain had finally ceased an hour earlier so we were at least able to put them up in the dry.

Getting here early allowed me to hand wash some clothes, I just need some good weather tomorrow so I can dry them on the back of my rucsac.

15 miles mostly in rain.
