Log No 201. Mon 9th Dec 2013 - Caernarfon to Trefor, 17 miles (3103 miles walked)

Caernarfon
When I got up this morning the lights inside the camper didn't seem to be working very well and I realised the battery (the camper has an additional dedicated battery for the lights and pumps etc) had very little charge left in it.

The camper hasn't been hooked up to the mains for 2 weeks since I was at Southport.

I had no problems following the route today as it was mostly road walking.

After driving into Caernarfon I set off at 08.00, it is still a bit on the dark side but I was just walking on the road round the shore to Foryd Bay.

There was no change to the weather, a bit overcast but dry and remarkably mild.

Footpath at Foryd Bay
The road took a slight detour to get over the river Afon Gwyrfai and then at the head of the bay it was a footpath to get to Caernarfon Airport.

It wasn't a busy place, I only saw one helicopter come in.

Footpath at Morfa Dinlle
The Coastal Way took the road by the airport to get to the shore at Morfe Dinlle.

The tarmac footpath to Dinas Dinlle has also sustained damage from the sea with big chunks taken out of it.

St Beuno's Ch, Clynnog Fawr
It was back on the road again, or effectively so, the 6 miles on the A499 was mostly a cycleway/pavement.

There was an unusually ornate church at Clynnog Fawr, built for Saint Beuno.

The Way left the A499 and went to the village of Trefor.

I had to stop here after 17 miles, it was only 13.20 but the next section is real coast and hill walking and too long to complete in the remaining daylight.

I caught the bus back to Caernarfon and it is cooking by head torch now until I can find a campsite that is open.
