Log No 165. Sun 20th Oct 2013 - Auchencairn to Barnbarroch, 17 miles (2549 miles walked)

It was raining as forecast and we had our waterproofs on ready for when we got dropped off at Auchencairn.

Most of the walk was to be on the road and inland to get round Rough Firth and over Urr Water which flows into it.

The first 6 miles didn't really get us very far as it was just a loop to take in a bit of the coast.

We set off along the minor road going past Farhills Farm and down to Rascarrel Bay.

The rain wasn't amounting to much but we had a strong wind coming off the sea to put up with.

Rascarrel Bay had a couple of chalets by the shore and one of them had unusual carvings outside the bit of garden.

It was a good footpath along the coast, signposted to Balcary Bay, and up on the cliff top to get round Airds Point and Balcary Point.

We never met any walkers but two groups of fishermen passed us, it didn't look like they would have much fun fishing off these rocks with the wind.

After rounding Balcary Point and coming into the car park at Balcary Bay we were in the shelter with the wind behind us and with the rain having stopped we were able to shed our waterproofs.

Balcary Bay is part of the much larger Auchinairn Bay which the minor road ran alongside taking us back to Auchinairn and the A711.

It was the main road all the way now, crossing Urr Water before going into Dalbeattie.

We only touched the outskirts of the town, taking the A710, the coast road to Dumfries, as far as the turn off to Kippford where we ended the day having walked 17 miles.
