Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Pwllheli to Aberystwyth (37)
3184 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 208. Mon 16th Dec 2013 - Wed 8th Jan 2014, xmas break (3184 miles walked)

I had 3 nights at Fionas then got the ferry on Thursday back to Orkney. The ferry had been delayed coming into Aberdeen and while I was in the queue waiting to drive onto the boat a recovery lorry arrived to pick up a camper that had just come off the ferry, the crossing down had been that rough that the camper had been tossed about so violently that it had hit other vehicles and apart from denting the bodywork had also cracked the overhead sleeping cab right around. The camper driver wished me good luck on my crossing.
The ferry departed nearly 4 hours late but the crossing was okay.

Bad weather also delayed my return trip, instead of leaving Orkney at 23.00 on the 3rd Jan it departed 08.30 on the 4th.
They put me on last, directed me between 2 articulated trailers and then tied the camper down. I've never seen them tie down campers before.
It was quite a rough crossing but no damage was done.

I had good weather on my drive down to Withernsea and for most of the time I was there.

Wednesday 8th
I left Withernsea in the sunshine and it remained dry right up until I arrived here in Fairbourne at 15.30, it is still raining at 20.30.

My plan had been to catch the 07.30 train back to where I finished on 15th Dec but there are no trains running until further notice due to storm damage.

It's good to be back with everything going according to plan!!
