Hi Dave, remember the odd holiday in this part of the country. Glad you have got some company this week, say Hi to Mick.

Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Cardiff to Burnham-on-Sea (42)
3735 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 244. Thu 13th Feb 2014 - Weston-Super-Mare to Burnham-on-Sea, 13 miles (3735 miles walked)

The beach from Weston-Super-Mare
Just for a change it was raining when I drove into Weston-Super-Mare but it wasn't going to be a long walk today so I sat in the camper and waited for the rain to stop.

It cleared by 10.00 and with the tide being out I walked along the beach to the end of the bay at Uphill.

The River Axe flowed into the bay here and there was no easy way to cross it so I followed the cycleway signs to Brean.

A dead badger
There were no footpaths shown on the map and it was a long detour getting round the river.

It was a fairly boring trek on the road and the only point of interest was seeing a dead badger.

The weather had brightened up and the showers looked to be done with for the time being at least.

The beach to Burnham-on-Sea
From Brean the cycleway goes along the beach all the way to Burnham-on-Sea.

The map shows the route as being above the high tide line but the tides of the last few weeks have been right up to the dunes and it looks like quite a lot of it has been lost recently.

While I was walking along the beach I saw 3 surveyors recording the edge of the dune line.

The Leaning Tower of Burnham
Coming into Burnham-on-Sea I couldn't help but notice the odd angle of a church tower.

The tower of St Michael's Church was definitely leaning over and what made it more odd looking was that the doorway in the tower was vertical.

St Michael's Church
Apart from walking on the beach at the start the 13 miles I did today was all tarmac or hardcore, not one footpath.

Well the good news is that Mick got his train tickets changed to come a different route avoiding the flooded areas and will meet up with me tomorrow as planned.

I'll need to do some spring cleaning to make room in the camper for him and his kit.
