Log No 326. Mon 26th May 2014 - Battlesbridge to Burnham-on-Crouch, 16 miles (5038 miles walked)
An early start at 07.10 saw us leaving the campsite taking footpaths north through fields to cross the railway line and main road to get onto the minor road to South Woodham Ferres.
It seemed to have rained constantly through the early hours but it was clear when we left and there was a good breeze, the forecast was for periods of rain all day.
We skirted round South Woodham Ferres on the B1012 and then took footpaths to get to North Fambridge and the marina on the River Crouch.
We were splitting todays walk into 4 sections but I was feeling tired and my leg was aching so when I saw the bench by the river I called for an early second break.
It was easy enough walking on the embankment footpath and an hour later, at 11.25, we stopped at Althorne Marina for another break.
Two catamarans in Althorne Creek |
There were quite a few yachts going up and down the river and a pair of catamarans went up the creek to sail round Bridgemarsh Island.
Dave at Burnham-on-Crouch |
We never met anyone else on the footpath until we got past Creeksea and up to the marina at Burnham-on-Crouch.
Our campsite for the day was next to the river, just on the east side of Burnham. As we needed supplies we detoured slightly to find the shops in the village.
It was 13.45 when we got to the campsite and we hadn't been here half an hour when it started to rain so we couldn't have timed that any better.
We only did 16 easy miles but that was plenty for me, I've not had a rest day since the 6th May and I think it's catching up with me.
