Log No 160. Tue 15th Oct 2013 - Newton Stewart to Gatehouse of Fleet, 19 miles (2493 miles walked)

Cycleway from Newton Stewart
The good weather continues and I set off in the sunshine on the cycleway from Newton Stewart.

The more direct route (and nearer the coast) is the A75 but the cycleway was only a short distance inland and much more pleasant to walk on.

The River Cree
The first hour was on minor roads and I didn't meet a single car.

After that it was half an hour along a dismantled railway track before returning to the minor roads.

All the coastline of these last 2 days has been around Wigtown Bay and the 3 major rivers coming into it, River Bladnoch, River Cree and Water of Fleet all flow through very flat land and as a consequence meander all over the place. The tide goes out a long way and comes back in quickly.

Carsluith Castle
At Creetown I had to rejoin the A75 for a short section before my last mile of minor road through Carsluith.

From there it was 3 hours on the A75 to Gatehouse of Fleet. The road wasn't too busy and I could walk for 5 minutes without meeting a car coming towards me.

Water of Fleet
I had timed my walk well and only had to wait 10 minutes for the bus to take me back to Newton Stewart.

My campsite for tonight is a layby on the A75 just 3 miles west of G. of Fleet.

I walked in my walking shoes for today's 19 miles and again it was more or less pain free, I still have niggles but after wearing boots for 7 months I suspect it will be a long time before the Achilles fully recover.
